ABOUT FAIRTRADE AFRICA

Established in 2005, Fairtrade Africa (FTA) is a member of Fairtrade International and the umbrella network organization representing Fairtrade-certified Producer Organizations in Africa and the Middle East. It has four (4) regional networks – Eastern & Central Africa; Southern Africa; West Africa; and the Middle East & North Africa. FTA currently represents 1,354,294 farmers and workers in 660 producer organizations spread across 28 countries in Africa and the Middle East by providing services to them that contribute to the improvement of their livelihoods.

THE COMMUNICATION DESK

The External Communications desk under the Executive Director leads and coordinates all external communication activities. The desk spearheads FTA’s communication strategy, acts as the custodian of the Fairtrade brand, and serves as the liaison point for communications peersfrom National Fairtrade Organizations spread across the world, engages external stakeholders and partners, manages media inquiries and directs the production of communication productstomeet professional standards and brandrequirements and among other activities, leads the implementation various visibility activities (online and offline) to raise the profile of the brand.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Brand Communications Intern, you will help us amplify our brand, and tell our brand story in an inspiring, compelling, and meaningful way. You will support the FTA Communications Team in delivering brand communications around an exciting new brand project and coordinating with colleagues in various other functions at the secretariat and regional offices. Your Role Will Include:

i)Brand & Communications

 Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives (within reasonable scope), remaining flexible and willing to contribute.  Support in project documentation with a key focus on impact collation, dissemination, and visibility.

ii)Creativity and Ideation

 Offering ideas, bringing genuine enthusiasm and creativity to the table  Keeping your team updated with any brand activity, creative executions, media news, and related topics.

iii)Project Work

 Taking ownership of essential tasks related to project implementation and delivering them to a high standard  Responsibility for managing regular day-to-day routines including reporting

iv) Any other duties as may be assigned.
