GRACE Initiative is a well-established middle-sized and continuously growing humanitarian organization looking to fill the position of Programs Manager responsible for the quality and effectiveness of GRACE Initiative’s programmatic response, assuring the quality and effectiveness of responses and interventions, as well as its responsibility to its beneficiaries and partners.

Broad areas of responsibility include, leadership and management, program design and planning, and financial Planning.

Position will be based in Kisii County.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Overall supervision and support of currently implemented programs in all the phases of project cycle management.
  • Lead, support, and assist program staff by providing direction, input, and feedback.
  • Participate in management team meetings and decision making, in line with GI strategies and policies.
  • Direct supervision of Program Coordinators (and/or Project Managers), who are further managing respective projects.
  • Undertake in-acting capacity and/or by delegation the responsibilities of the Executive Director when he/she is out of office.

Program Design and Business Development

  • Strategic planning, program development and proposal writing including incorporating innovations, research, and good practices,
  • Monitor the funding pipeline and lead on new business development and forecasting.
  • Stay informed of and gather intelligence on forthcoming funding opportunities which match GRACE goals and objectives
  • Actively identify, qualify, and track funding and partnership opportunities in a systematic manner in pursuit of supporting GRACE’s programming in Kenya.
  • Building of synergy among the programs
  • Suggest and implement initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization.

Initiative

  • Lead on project design, proposal writing, implementation and reporting to donors and supervisors as well as working with the ED to ensure continuous funding of programs.
  • Create a program evaluation framework to detect weaknesses and strengths and globally identify areas for improvement and coordinate the execution of this survey.
  • Create and implement program activities respecting the policies and procedures of the organization.

Financial Planning

  • Assist in the creation of the annual budget and operating plan to support the program.
  • Ensure financial side of programming is understood and followed by the project teams together with financial department.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality reporting is done by all programs towards its donors
  • Assist the Executive Director to ensure that funds are disbursed according to the set policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and review all budgeted program expenditures.
  • Evaluate budget needs and reports to the Executive Director monthly.

Partnership, Networking and Representation

  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with relevant stakeholders and Government departments
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with a range of partners from research organizations, universities, other NGOs, Private sector and donors
  • Creating opportunities to promote and disseminate lessons learned within GRACE Initiative to a wider audience (farmers, local government, research institutions, other NGOs, etc.)
  • Creating opportunities for Media and PR coverage for the work of GRACE
  • Promote GRACE’s organizational identity and capacity to all stakeholders and partners in Kenya and ensure GRACE remains relevant to the changing needs of disadvantaged people and children that we work with
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders, authorities, and communities, directly and through the program staff: develop the culture of service, accompaniment, and advocacy.

Qualifications

  • Excellent experience with people’s/team management, including development of national team capacities.
  • Proven excellent experience with program/project management of donor-funded projects including supervision of procedures and compliance with donors’ requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (incl. crisis management, negotiations, coaching/mentoring exp. etc.)
  • Successful proposal writing track record including major institutional donors.
  • Technical knowledge in one or more of these sectors: health, nutrition, climate, livelihoods, food security, public health, WASH, STEM Education.
  • A Master’s degree in management/public admin, development studies or one of the sectors is an advantage.
  • Excellent English both written and spoken.
  • Ability to organize, plan effectively, prioritize & time-management, delegation of duties
