Position Title: Special Education Teacher

Location: Nairobi

We seek to recruit highly skilled, flexible, innovative, and enthusiastic special education teachers to provide high-quality literacy support services for children.

Child Development Centre (CDC)

The Child Development Centre provides early intervention, therapy, and rehabilitation services for children.

Services delivered include Early intervention and literacy support services, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Psychology, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Our literacy support unit supports children with communication delays and/or autism between the ages of 2 upto 6 years.

Our unit is equipped with personalized cubicles for individualized learning. Our inclusive play-based interventions encourage and enable every child to reach their full potential.

We have an exciting opportunity for special education teachers to work at our newly established child development center.

Purpose of the Post:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing literacy support unit by CDC operational manual and clinical guidelines.
  • Provide interventions aimed at enhancing literacy and life skills for children attending the unit.
  • Setting up and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for each child in collaboration with parents/guardians
  • Reviewing the child’s progress and modifying intervention plans as appropriate
  • Writing accurate diary notes, reports, and other documents as required by Centre guidelines
  • Communicating effectively with parents/guardians throughout the process
  • Engaging proactively and positively with therapy teams, parents, and children
  • Contributing to the development of the Centre
  • Attending and contributing to team meetings as required
  • Completing risk assessments and incident reports for areas of responsibility as required
  • Establishing an excellent working relationship with all stakeholders
  • Advising Centre manager of any issue that may affect the delivery of high-quality care
  • Engaging in continuous professional development
  • Critical analysis of research articles (literature) and drawing appropriate conclusions to guide literacy support. Working with the research and innovation team to mainstream these findings.
  • Attending all mandatory training relevant to the role
  • Any other duties assigned by the Centre manager

To be considered for this post, applicants must demonstrate the following:

Essential criteria qualification

  • Bachelor of Education (special needs education ) from a recognized institution
  • Must be registered and licensed to practice in Kenya.
  • Excellent skills in supporting children with special educational needs
  • Knowledge and understanding of individualized education plan
  • Practical skills in developing visual schedules
  • Must be fully proficient in Microsoft office including word, PowerPoint and excel.
  • Excellent skills in the following areas:
    • Planning and organization
    • Time management skills
    • problem-solving
    • Interpersonal and communication

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in working with therapy services such as occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy etc.
  • Understanding of The EACCH program/methodology
  • Experience working with Autism spectrum disorder and communication difficulties.
