Concrete Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop capacity, skills and proficiency as an engineer and/or professional in the engineering & construction industry
  • Take instruction and carry out tasks assigned by senior site staff as well as senior management within SMEC
  • Assist the site supervision team as well as inspectors in undertaking required site supervision tasks
  • Adhere to corporate values, policies and procedures
  • Assist with the management, delivery and administration of the project
  • Monitor contractor compliance with the project requirements and report where there is a non-conformance
  • Analysis and design of technical solutions where issues arise on site or where queries raised by the client or contractor
  • Review monthly payment certificates, contract documentation, bills/schedules of quantities and technical specifications and ensure that documentation is correct for monthly or interim payment certificates submitted to the client
  • Preparation of site correspondence as well as other documentation required for site administration and/or reporting
  • Knowledge of contracts
  • Participate in management meetings relating to the project (either on site or in Nairobi)

Key Challenges

  • Understanding complex technical problems and developing appropriate and sustainable solutions
  • Identify and implement innovative approaches to enhancing productivity within the team and for delegated responsibilities, i.e. enhance software knowledge, use of project programming software to monitor and enhance work efficiency
  • Managing contractor compliance with specifications and project requirements
  • Formulating and modifying solutions or technical challenges on site – discussing and agreeing with senior SMEC staff before implementing.
  • Time and resource management.
  • Co-operation with other disciplines/groups within the construction site as well as head office.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc Civil Engineering or BTech Civil Engineering; Professional registration is not essential but will be an advantage
  • 4 – 7 years’ post qualification experience, with an interest to work on a construction site and develop a career in aspects of materials, dams and civil engineering (experience on a construction site is a requirement)
  • CAD skills
  • Practical knowledge of hydraulic and hydrological principles
  • Proficient in use of MS Office suite (including MS Project)
