Position Title: Junior Structural Engineer

Industry: Steel and Fabrication Engineering industry

Location: Nairobi

Position Summary: Our client is a leading steel fabrication firm that specializes in the design, fabrication, and erection of structural steel works in Eastern and Central Africa.

They are looking to recruit a reliable and a qualified candidate to fill in the Junior structural engineer position.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of construction of civil and structural works for the project.
  • Calculating the pressure stresses and strain that each component, such as beam, or lintel will experience from other parts of the structure due to usage.
  • Liaising with other designers to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of construction making drawings, specification, and computer models of structures.
  • Analyze configurations of the basic components of a structure.
  • Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction
  • Research, plan and design structural solutions for a wide range of industrial facilities.
  • Responsible for completing structural analysis and design of complex structures fabricated from structural steel, reinforced concrete, and design of complex foundations, including pile- and soil-supported.
  • Responsible for review of structural shop drawings and data. Interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines and designers.
  • Responsible for preparation of construction drawing and specification packages
  • Prepare reports, designs, and drawings.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the design of structural steel work
  • Experience in working in a steel fabrication office
  • Understand fabrication drawings
  • Experience in the design of steel with BS 5950
  • BSc Degree in civil/structural engineering
  • 4-5 years of experience and knowledge in steel fabrication and RC design
  • Experience in execution of structural steel related projects and supervise concrete work
  • Excellent use of English language and verbal communication
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skill.
  • Able to work well in a team
