Position Title: Intern, Finance
About the Role
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking an Intern, Finance to support the processing and recording of payment transactions in GAIN Kenya office. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya office and is offered on a 6 months fixed-term contract basis.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the intern will be responsible for ensuring processing and recording of payment transactions are done in a timely and accurate manner. You will support compliance and working closely with all country office staff members.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the preparation of payment vouchers for staff and suppliers and ensuring accurate coding and support documentation as per GAIN policy
- Processing day to day payment for the Nairobi office and maintaining all accounting documents
- Maintaining an effective filing system for project correspondences, reports and other documents. Capturing financial data into the financial system by following all relevant GAIN regulations
- Supporting the accounts payable and receivable process
- Assisting in verifying staff travel advances/claims are accurate and properly supporting before raising journal vouchers
- Assisting in preparation of bank reconciliations and following up on any outstanding items
About you
You will be fluent in written and spoken English and working knowledge of additional languages would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will possess accuracy in the processing of cash transactions, mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
A Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or related fields and a minimum ACCA / CPA 1 or other relevant accounting qualification. You will be computer literate in Microsoft Office and Tally skills.
About our Offer
The salary on offer for this role is KES 22,000 per month (gross salary).

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Due to COVID19, conflict in Ukraine and climate change, malnutrition and hunger have worsened significantly since 2019, reversing a decade of progress. There is growing recognition that our food systems need to change if we are to reverse these trends.
GAIN’s Strategy aims to transform food systems to make healthier diets from sustainable food systems accessible to all people and especially those whose are most vulnerable to shocks. By 2027, we aim to improve the access of 1.5 billion people to nutritionally enhanced staple foods, improve the access of 25 million people to healthier diets, and support positive food system change in 10 countries.
