Position Title: Rehabilitation Technical Officer – National Position

Responsible to:- Country Director - Sudan

Place: Nairobi with regular travel to Sudan upon VISA approval

Starting date: As soon as possible.

Contract Period: 6 Months

JOB CONTEXT:

Humanity & Inclusion (HI), together with a local NGO will start a project in Sudan. Due to the administrative constraints to obtain visas in Sudan, the HI team will be based in Nairobi, providing remote support to the local partners. Depending on VISA approval, HI teams will have the possibility to travel to Sudan for field and monitoring visits. The project includes physical and functional rehabilitation, MHPSS, Protection and Inclusive Humanitarian Action.

Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Rehabilitation Technical Officer contributes to the implementation of Humanity & Inclusion's mandate and 10-year strategy in his or her home country. He/she supervises the technical support and quality control of the rehabilitation project activities implemented remotely. His/her role is key to the successful implementation of the project by ensuring that partner staff’s capacities are strengthened to provide quality rehabilitation care and activities. He works closely with the program’s technical team.

YOUR MISSION:

Mission 1: Technical supervision and support to partners

  • Analyse all individual assessment forms, videos and case studies sent by the partners’ rehabilitation teams. Ensure compliance with HI rehabilitation guidelines in the implementation of activities.
  • Through regular discussions with partners’ staff, collect information about any technical issues faced by the teams.
  • Report on these issues to the Country Director and relevant HI technical staff along with suggestions for improvement.
  • Provide reminders, recommendations, or support to partners in case of need to ensure compliance with guidelines and standards and follow specific requests expressed by partners’ staff.

Mission 2: Training and capacity building for partners

  • Ensure regular contact with the clinical team of partners, to assess, plan and deliver individualized, relevant technical support and capacity building.
  • Work collaboratively with the partner and HI technical team (Area Manager and HQ rehabilitation specialist), to establish a capacity-building plan for each partner.
  • Participate in the writing and refining of training packages as regards physical rehabilitation according to identified needs in close collaboration with HQ rehabilitation specialist and Country Director.
  • Facilitate remote, face-to-face and/or on-the-job training to partners’ teams in line with the training needs identified and the plan developed for each staff.
  • Liaise with the Area Manager and HQ rehabilitation specialist to support continual re-assessment of relevancy of capacity building modalities, and any evolution of technical support needs, according to the partner context and beneficiary profile.
  • In strong link with the HQ rehabilitation specialist, participate in the development and use of tools, or identification of needs for tools, to ensure capacity building is tailored to the partner's specific needs, thereby ensuring the added value of HI’s long-term partnerships;
  • Capacitate partner to assess and identify own learning needs where possible, and use feedback to ensure the use of capacity building modalities best suited to partner stage of development and expertise.
  • Seek support for the Country Director and/or an HQ rehabilitation specialist whenever required to ensure safe and successful implementation of the capacity building plan, and proactively update them regarding challenges and progress;
  • Provide reports/summaries of any training given.

Mission 3: Monitoring of rehabilitation activities

  • Ensure that the project monitoring documents are received on time, providing reminders to partner staff if necessary.
  • Verify the compliance with defined methodologies and proper use of monitoring and data collection tools, requesting clarifications and providing feedback to partners if needed.
  • Participate in assessments and evaluations relating to the quality of rehabilitation and partners activities.
  • Regularly extract specific data through the project documents sent by partners’ staff, send it along with analysis of this data, to the Country Director and other relevant HI staff;

Mission 4. Support to operations

  • Participate in the identification and assessment of the partners’ organizational, operational, and technical capacities related to fields of expertise upon request of the Country Director
  • Contribute, in close collaboration with operational and support teams, in defining the operational, administrative, financial, and logistical procedures to be applied within the framework of the partnership and respected throughout the project.
  • With the support of the logistics officer provide appropriate technical support for the partners’ procurement process for the rehabilitation services
  • Support the logistics department in market studies, seek technical support as needed and approve material specifications and quality if needed.
  • Prepare the purchase requests specific to rehabilitation activities (including equipment, and training costs…) and send them to the Country Director
  • Support the MEAL/IM and logistic department to ensure the reconciliation of assistive products stock with donation certificates.

Mission 5. Support to the design and implementation of physical rehabilitation pillar

  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of rehabilitation tools, guidelines, and processes.
  • Ensure the translation of rehabilitation tools and processes upon request.
  • Share vision of future physical rehabilitation partners’ needs with management as to feed the overall strategic planning of the physical rehabilitation sector of activities.

Mission 6. Reporting and Liaison

  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of rehabilitation tools, guidelines, and processes.
  • Ensure the translation of rehabilitation tools and processes upon request.
  • Share vision of future physical rehabilitation partners’ needs with management as to feed the overall strategic planning of the physical rehabilitation sector of activities.

Mission 7. Confidentiality

  • Respect the confidentiality of all information and data received.
  • Restrict information sharing only to relevant internal staff and none to external sources.
  • Respect and promote HI’s policies and report to your line manager any non-respect of these policies amongst the teams or partners.
  • Report any incident or act that causes any harm to the beneficiary or to others

YOUR PROFILE:

Educational background and experience

  • Qualifications: Degree in physiotherapy
  • Experience:
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience and experience in emergency humanitarian settings experience in hospital and multidisciplinary approach
  • Experience in supervision and health science pedagogy
  • Proven training experience – TOT experience would be an asset.
