Position Title: Senior Manager (Market Supervision)

The Capital Markets Authority is a statutory agency charged with the responsibility of regulating and developing an efficient capital market in Kenya.

The Authority invites applications from qualified candidates for the following positions:

Senior Manager, Market Supervision

Grade 3

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Director, Market Operations, the Senior Manager Market Supervision will be responsible for providing technical leadership and strategic direction in the supervision of regulated entities to ensure compliance with capital markets legal and regulatory requirements with a view to protection of investors’ interests and ensuring that the securities markets are fair, efficient, and transparent.

The successful candidate will serve on a five (5) year contract renewable based on performance.

The Authority will offer a competitive remuneration package to the successful candidate.

Job Responsibilities

1) Providing technical leadership in the development of supervision philosophy and frameworks for effective implementation of supervision methodologies;

2) Developing and monitoring implementation of the supervision strategy;

3) Advising the Director Market Operations and the Chief Executive Officer on all issues relating to market supervision;

4) Overseeing the design and implementation of programs to address market risk as well as oversight of market infrastructures deployed by regulated persons;

5) Coordinating supervision activities on alternative markets including trading platforms and other market infrastructure;

6) Overseeing the design and implementation of surveillance strategies and programs to detect and deter regulatory breaches;

7) Reviewing and implementing appropriate early warning systems and the necessary intervention strategies to mitigate risks in the capital market;

8) Identifying areas for technical and specialists support to the Department including stress testing, surveillance, risk, and other critical supervision matters; and

9) Maintaining relations with key stakeholders to provide appropriate understanding of the Authority’s regulatory standards and policies.

Minimum Requirements

a) Bachelors Degree in Law, Finance or a relevant field;

b) Relevant Masters Degree;

c) Member of professional body in good standing;

d) At least eight (8) years of work experience;

e) At least three (3) years’ experience in management level; and

f) Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks is an added advantage.

e) Knowledge on strategic management, project planning and budgeting, resource management, implementation as well as monitoring and evaluation; and
