Position Title: Manager – Government, Legal & Industry Affairs

1 Position

Our Client, in the airline industry, seeks to recruit a highly efficient and proactive Manager Government, Legal & Industry Affairs to be in charge of delivering AFRAA members expectations by the Secretariat.

The incumbent must perform his/her duties to the highest standard possible, while demonstrating a very high level of maturity, self-motivation, integrity and discipline.

The Main Functions are to assist The Director in:

Specific Responsibilities

  • Support the Director to develop, implement and report on its short, medium and long-term plans/programmes on government, legal and aero-political affairs.
  • Support advocacy campaigns and work closely with key stakeholders in industry, government, trade, tourism and non-traditional partners to support AFRAA policy goals and objectives.
  • Conduct research, gather intelligence and analyse impact of new/amended regulations and aero-political developments on the airline industry.
  • Think and act strategically to support the attainment of departmental goals through sensitization, capacity building, advocacy and lobbying stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate all departmental meetings and mobilise resources/logistics for successful outcomes (invitation, venue, audio/visuals, meeting documents, refreshments, hotel transfers, travel and accommodation, etc).
  • Develop and maintain a diary of meetings/engagements that is aligned to the department priorities, assure efficient utilisation of time and attainment of set goals.
  • Plan the Department’s Governance meetings (Aero-political Committee, Route Network & Cargo Committee) and support work on the Executive Committee meetings and the Annual General Assembly.
  • Act on behalf of the Director as Secretary to Committees and tasks force meetings
  • Support the Director in the planning and execution of all Department activities and events.
  • Where required attend meetings, provide secretarial or other support as may be directed
  • Prepare presentation slides and draft speeches
  • Research and prepare material for monthly industry affairs webinars in coordination with other departments.
  • Participate in the compilation of the department’s Key Performance Indicators based on the Association’s strategy.
  • Manage and maintain the projects planning and evaluation dashboard for the department.
  • Coordinate the department’s workplan and business travels to achieve the overall AFRAA performance and costs objectives.
  • Compile and maintain an up-to-date register of relevant industry regulatory texts for ease of reference and access
  • Handle all department’s financial expenditure and reconciliations in line with AFRAA finance policy
  • Maintain an up-to-date dedicated file of signed minutes of Committees and projects.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contact database of Committee members and key stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study from a recognized institution
  • National of an African State with a successful track record at management level
  • At least 8 (eight) years’ work experience in the aviation industry
  • Fluent in English and/or French. Ability to communicate and work in both languages an advantage
  • Computer literate and proficient in using standard office computer software applications

Competencies

  • Good understanding of air transport developments from an industry and government viewpoint
  • Proven track record in performance and knowledge of the African air transport industry issues.
  • Competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and meet competing deadlines with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with industry executives, partners and consultants
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of multilateral negotiations and the conduct of meetings and conferences
  • Good stakeholder management skills
  • Impeachable record of honesty of personal integrity
