Location: Nairobi (with frequent travel to field sites in Murang’a and Kiambu)

Reporting: Program and Sponsorship Coordinator

Duration: 3 years

Salary Range: Ksh 80,000 – 95,000 (Monthly gross pay)

Job Summary

Under the general guidance and direction of the Programs and Sponsorship Coordinator; the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant will work as part of the NMP team to support day-to-day implementation of the MEL system including data collection, collation, entry, analysis and use for decision-making. The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will conduct quality assurance activities of field-based program implementation, accountability and learning process. In addition, he/she will support to ensure timely delivery of project activities and achievement of set targets, budget management, milestones, and reporting. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, within the areas of the operation, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Provide support in the preparation of internal program reports i.e. Quarterly Progress Report, Monthly Monitoring Report, and Annual Operational Plan and Budget, evaluation and impact assessment reports.
  2. Provide timely feedback to implementation teams from the MEL system findings to enhance effectiveness of program/project implementation and steps needed to achieve desired outcomes.
  3. Support the implementation of program monitoring and evaluation plans, logframe and results frameworks
  4. Monitor and report the status and progress of Annual Operation Plan and Results Framework based on the set performance indicators as well as budget expenditures
  5. Conduct process and outcome monitoring to assess quality of activity implementation, routine data quality audits and document field visit reports and action trackers.
  6. Monitor all project activities, expenditures and progress towards achieving the program outputs/outcomes.
  7. Suggest strategies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the program by identifying bottlenecks in completing activities and developing plans to minimize or eliminate such bottlenecks.
  8. Support PSOs in development of monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports on all program activities; success stories.
  9. Participate in annual project reviews and planning workshops and assist the Programs and Sponsorship Coordinator in preparing relevant reports;
  10. Support external evaluators and project team in designing and conducting baseline, midterm, endline evaluations and any other specialized studies
  11. Support project launch, start up and close out workshops to disseminate to stakeholders’ information related to implementation and critical learnings
  12. Ensure implementation of NMPs evaluation and review lessons learned and recommendations.
  13. Any other duties as maybe assigned from time to time by the supervisor

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

Essential

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Community Development, International Development, Project management, Disaster Management, Statistics, or closely related fields.
  • A minimum of 2-4 years of direct, “hands-on” working experience in building and operating monitoring and evaluation of projects/programs.
  • Working programme experience with national and international NGOs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong team working skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and short deadlines
  • Good report writing skills, strong writing and communication skills and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office 365 applications.
  • Knowledge in use of mobile data collection applications such as Commcare, KOBOCollect, ODK.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis using relevant software such as Advanced MS Excel STATA or SPSS

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social sciences, Statistics or Mathematics or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with child focused NGOs with sponsorships programming
  • Organized and able to manage own time under guidance and direction from line-manager
  • Experience in data visualization such as dashboards using Advanced Excel, Power BI
