Accountant Job Vacancy in Nairobi, Kenya

POSITION TITLE: ACCOUNTANT

DEPARTMENT: ACCOUNTS
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: CONTRACT
POSITION TYPE: FULL TIME
LOCATION: NAIROBI, KENYA 

Job Specification Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

1. Management of Hekima University College Accounts;
2. Ensure Proper maintenance and update of the fixed Asset Registry;
3. Managing petty cash books reconciliations and monthly cash count certificates;
4. Ensure efficient record keeping of inter-departmental transactions
5. Overseeing day to day financial management;
6. Managing accounts payable and receivable, including records and filling of all vouchers;
7. Keeping organized books of tuition fees and files of receipts;
8. Ensure all transactions/entries are posted in the account system;
9. Schedule of investments - long and short term;
10. Creating and managing the annual budget;
11. Presenting monthly reconciliation on the 10th of every month
12. Schedules of Income, Interest, grants, donations and other incomes;
13. Management of payroll records;
14. Preparation of trial balance and general ledger, balance sheet, profit and loss statements;
15. Report the general performance of investments/ funding to management;
16. Ensure proper documentation, storage and custody of account records - both hard and soft copy;
17. Ensure accounts are readily prepared for the audit process;
18. Assisting in all account tasks assigned and any other tasks assigned by the management.

Required Qualification

1. BA in Accounting and Finance
2. Registered Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Level 6
3. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in accounting – worked under a supervisor or held a supervisory position in an institution
4. Added advantage but not a must: worked in academic related institutions
5. Has practical knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel
6. Tacit knowledge in audit preparation, monthly reconciliation, budget making, and bookkeeping
7. Familiar with the use of ICT in accounting and interdepartmental networking
8. Knowledge in diverse capital investments & strategies of financial sustainability
9. Added advantage: Knowledge in project proposal writing, project accounting and reporting
10. Good interpersonal skills and work ethics
11. Can work under pressure of deadlines
12. Ability to handle multiple departmental accounts
