ABOUT THE PROGRAM

BOMA is currently seeking qualified candidates for Program Training Officer position for the newly awarded Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya project. The Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya project will implement a climate crisis-adapted “green” version of The BOMA Project’s proven poverty graduation model, the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) to provide market-based pull by facilitating more competitive, profitable Green Enterprises for women, youth, and refugees within the forest ecosystems in Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana counties and in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlements over a period of 3 years. BOMA will be the Lead partner of the project and will collaborate with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Smart Regional Consultants (SRC) in implementing the project.

JOB SUMMARY

The position holder will support in all capacity development needs for the project. She/He will be responsible for building the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of the implementing team and partner staff to successfully deliver the “Green” Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), BOMA’s unique Graduation Approach, and adaptations thereof. S/he will guide through training of trainers, need-based design, and targeted training to achieve the outcomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support in the development, design, and delivery of business skills, Natural Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, climate change and other modules relevant to the project in coordination and collaboration with the project team.

• Consistently build the capacity of the project team and partners using a Trainer of Trainers approach to effectively deliver and implement the graduation model.

• Maintain schedule and track delivery of training for the project team, partners, and program participants.

• Facilitate and co-facilitate training sessions for project team, partners, and program participants.

• Organize and coordinate logistics for training activities in collaboration with the cluster admin.

• Document training outcomes through detailed reports, post-tests, evaluations, spot checks and other feedback and accountability mechanisms to inform continuous improvement.

• Build the capacity of the project team to apply best practices and methods in training to their work.

• Support training resource and capacity needs assessments that identify strengths to leverage and gaps to be addressed with training.

• Support in the development of individualized targeted training for the project team that meets the skills gap identified through the training/capacity needs assessment.

• Support in the coordination and facilitation of external technical trainers or vendors as need arises. • Maintain an inventory of digital and hard copy archives of training materials for the project.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS INCLUDE:

• Green REAP and Graduation Approach guidelines and principles well understood and applied by trainees (Project team, partners, and program participants)

• Appropriate adaptations are adopted and properly documented, along with learnings from the field.

• Training plan for the project executed on time, on scope, and within budget.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Natural resource Management or similar.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

At least three (3) years of field-based training experience, preferably in the implementation of Natural Resource Management, climate change adaptation or livelihoods project in Northern Kenya.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:

• Professional Trainer of Trainer qualification/certification is a plus.

• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Proven expertise in delivering collaborative and engaging training that responds to learning needs of individuals, teams, and/or partners.

• Experience delivering field-based projects in an international or national organization.

• Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Proficient in computer skills.

• Excellent time management skills, ability to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
