Position Title: Nutritionist

Job Summary: The position is responsible for providing clinical nutrition care and rehabilitative services to patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote initiatives that support delivery of quality nutrition services by the Hospital.
  • Provide guidance and direction on all nutrition related issues and ensure appropriate nutrition related policies, guidelines and processes are in place and adhered to.
  • Consult and coordinate with wards, departments, Doctors / Clinicians, Nurses, the Catering Unit regarding nutrition priority issues and/or procedures.
  • Provide nutritional counselling and advice to clients / patients whose nutritional status need improvement and create a clinical treatment plan.
  • Evaluate the nutritional needs of patients and make recommendations for correcting their nutritional status as needed.
  • Consult with other health professionals on nutrition management for individual patients.
  • Create a clinical nutrition treatment plan for clients/patients.
  • Undertake ward rounds to provide oversight on administration of in-patient feeding
  • Implement and monitor outpatient and inpatient supplementary and therapeutic feeding programmes.
  • Promote maternal, infant and young children feeding programmes.
  • Review, monitor and provide technical assistance on the implementation of the Hospital menus and recipes, including: food purchasing, preparation, and storage, kitchen sanitation and cleanliness, food handling and dish washing procedures.
  • Oversee meal preparation and serving to make sure dietary needs and food safety regulations are being met, and that appropriate quantities are served to patients.
  • Develop and monitor the provision of special diets for patients with documented food allergies or other feeding problems or special nutritional needs.
  • Ensure patients with disabilities who are in need of adaptive feeding techniques or utensils are adequately catered for.
  • Determine the training needs of staff, patients and parents, and develop and/or deliver nutrition education including development of appropriate resources.
  • Undertake periodic assessment of the equipment used by the catering unit.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, Dietetics / Clinical Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition or equivalent from a recognized University
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience in a similar position
