Human Resource Manager Job Vacancy at a Golf and Country Club in Nairobi

Our Client, a leading Golf and Country Club in Nairobi is seeking to fill the position of Human Resource Manager.

The main purpose of this job is to effectively manage the Club’s human capital through attraction and retention of employees, training and development, and catering to staff welfare and wellness.

Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day Operations

  • Develop work plans for the HR Department.
  • Supervise the performance of HR Department staff.
  • Supervise all daily HR Operational activities ensuring the work flows are as planned.
  • Address any challenges faced by the department on a day-to-day basis.
  • Review costs vs the HR budgetary provisions ensuring optimal efficiency.
  • Take the lead and supervise any HR Department projects.

Responsible for the equipment/assets

  • Responsible for the utilization and security of equipment/assets allocated to the HR department.
  • Responsible for HR physical and electronic records.
  • Responsible for access control of HR systems.

Recruitment and Retention

  • Recruitment planning which includes identifying vacancies, preparing detailed job descriptions, and aligning recruitment costs to the budget allocated.
  • Talent search through various avenues and sources.
  • Screening, shortlisting, interviewing potential candidates, and conducting integrity checks.
  • Preparing offer letters, onboarding, subsequent follow-up, and review.
  • Developing and implementing employee retention strategies.

Employee Relations

  • Keeping up to date with legal developments and advising management on compliance and risks.
  • Developing, training, and implementing policies and procedures pertaining to employee relations
  • Manage employee disciplinary matters, and separation/offboarding processes in a procedural and efficient manner.
  • Procedurally resolving employee grievances and providing counselling.
  • Taking the lead in the CBA negotiations and implementation.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Developing competitive compensation policies in accordance with Club’s objectives and the industry benchmark.
  • Managing salary and benefits review process.
  • Reviewing payroll input and output for accuracy.

Training and development

  • Conduct training and development needs assessment.
  • Develop an annual training calendar in line with the approved training budget.
  • Develop employee development programs and objectives.
  • Source for trainers, plan and facilitate delivery of training.
  • Review all training programs to evaluate and measure results.

Performance management

  • Lead and manage the performance management cycle ensuring that goal setting and reviews are timely.
  • Develop interventions to ensure that employees understand the goals of the Club and to identify how individual inputs contribute to the achievement of the Club’s objectives.
  • Responsible for all communication, sensitization, and monitoring of the process to ensure its effectiveness and relevance to the Club.
  • Analyse the outcomes of the appraisals, prepare and present reports to the department heads so that informed decisions may be taken on reward, corrective action, and address training needs.
  • Resolve challenges related to appraisals, such as employee requests for re-evaluation, ensuring that these issues are handled in a fair professional, transparent, and equitable way.

Human Resource Administration

  • Proposing, developing, reviewing, and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing of day-to-day running of the HR department operations which includes guiding, advising, approving etc.
  • Administering other staff benefits such as medical insurance scheme, pension scheme, life insurance scheme, etc.
  • Preparing monthly and ad hoc reports as may be required.
  • Managing employee welfare, wellness, Health, and safety matters.
  • HR budget preparation.

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Science or Human Resource Management
  • Higher diploma or CHRP in Human Resource Management
  • Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) with a practicing license
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience as an HRM in a busy organisation.
  • Strategic HR Management and business partnering with expertise in functional areas.
  • Skills in HR advisory services to senior management, Board Committees and or the Board.
  • Budgeting and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in an agile, fast-moving environment and ability to keep up with the pace of change and prioritize according to business needs.
  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Ability to work across a range of projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to hold multiple perspectives and show mental agility in approaching problems.
