Position Title: Community Mental Health Para-Counselors (Open to Refugees Only)

Community Mental Health Para-Counselors (Open to Refugees Only)

RefuSHE’s Mental Health Department seeks to recruit interested individuals who are available and willing to offer psychosocial services through a Community Based Program that we plan to roll out to serve more refugee women and young girls. The services are meant to reduce burden of fear, stress, insecurity, discrimination that girls and women face daily and thrive in their educational and livelihood endeavors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identify and offer counseling to most vulnerable refugees in the community
  • Refer vulnerable refugee community members to partner organizations to access other needs and or services.
  • Follow-up and track very vulnerable cases at the community level
  • Disseminate mental health information to the community
  • Refer challenging cases to Psychosocial Counselors and offer translation where necessary.
  • Provide weekly reports to Psychosocial Counselors highlighting client needs, progress and outcome of support received.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, debriefing and supervision sessions as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Be a registered refugee with the required documentation
  • Have basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Working knowledge of the community, their mental health needs, and gaps
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili and any other major language spoken within the refugee community such as Kinyaruanda, Kirundi, Kinyamulenge, Somali, Oromo etc.
  • Must be living in Nairobi within the environs of Kayole, Eastleigh, Kasarani, Githurai, Kawangware and Ruiru

Added advantage

  • Worked in a similar role/position preferably within an NGO
  • Certified or testimonial from a recognized institution/organization

Availability

Two days in a week
