Context: Terre des hommes Foundation is an independent, neutral, and impartial Swiss organization founded in 1960, dedicated to bringing about significant and lasting change in the lives of children and young people, especially those most at risk.
Tdh ensures their well-being and the effective implementation of their rights as defined in the Convention on the Child’s Rights and other human rights instruments.
To make a difference, Tdh focus our efforts on maternal and child health, children and young people in migration situations, and access to justice.
Tdh is present in Kenya since 2011. Currently Tdh is providing protection services for children and families affected by migration, natural crises, and poverty in Dadaab refugee camps, in Garissa County, and in Korogocho informal settlement in Nairobi.
The intervention in Dadaab refugee camps is focused on prevention and response to child protection needs while strengthening protection community-based mechanisms in the refugee operation and its host communities.
In Korogocho informal settlements, Tdh implements early child development activities and child protection activities with a strong community-based approach aiming at decreasing violence against children and strengthening child protection mechanisms.
In Garissa, Tdh complements the Ministry of Health efforts to contribute to reduction in morbidity and mortality by early detection, referral and provision of appropriate treatment/management to severe malnourished children (6-59 months), pregnant and lactating women (PLW).
General Responsibilities
With the support and under the supervision of the Finance/ Logistics Officer, s/he is responsible for the daily management of the cars and any other task assigned by the supervisor.
S/he collaborates with other departments for the daily movement plans and follow up of activities.
The incumbent will conduct his or her duties in respect of the Charter of Terre des hommes (Tdh) and Tdh Child Protection Policy.
Tdh intervenes without any affiliation for politics, religion or financial profit.
The incumbent will direct his or her activities and engagements without preoccupation of political, racial or religious affiliation. Tdh expects that its staff and contractors’ professional conduct reflect proper behaviour in accordance with local culture and traditions.
The incumbent assures the moral protection of the name of Tdh and defends in all circumstances the interests of the movement.
Specific Responsibilities (Activity and Responsibility)
Line Management
- Report to the Finance/Logistics Officer
Daily Responsibilities
- Responsible for passengers and other road users’ safety.
- Responsible for vehicle maintenance and security.
- Assure the presence in the car of: Logbook, tools and spare parts, complete first aid kit and one spare tyre in good condition.
- Safe parking.
- Every morning verifies oil and water levels, battery status, and tires pressure.
- Correctly fill in and update the Logbook.
- Keep driving license and car papers valid and ready for inspection.
- Inform immediately the supervisor and the local authorities of any accident.
- Inform immediately the supervisor of any technical failure or need for maintenance of the vehicle.
- Support loading and unloading the car.
- Refuel the car whenever necessary or when the level gets below half the tank’s capacity.
- Support the team with small tasks like purchases, mail delivery, etc.
Coordination
- Ensure and facilitate the communication and information sharing within the team and the departments and contribute to the team responsibilities.
- Work in close collaboration with other departments.
Security
- Comply with Tdh Security Regulations
Other
- Undertake all other duties that may be determined by the supervisor and that are compatible with the job.
Abuse Prevention Policy – Operational Risk Management
- Commit to respect Tdh Risk Management Policies including Child Safeguarding Policy, Safety and Security Policy and Anti-Fraud/Corruption Policy, Whistle Blowing Policy
- Commit to ensure the best implementation possible of the Tdh Risk Management Policies
- Commit to inform supervisors and to deal with any cases, allegations, or possibility of transgression, even potential, of the Tdh Risk Management Policies.
Qualifications and Competencies
- At least two years’ experience working in the NGO environment
- Valid driving license
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Ability to communicate in Somali is a plus
- Working Knowledge of Garissa County is a plus
- Understanding, Interest, and commitment to Humanitarian activities
