Background and Purpose:

Our client is rapidly growing a business across the African continent with an insurance footprint in 8 markets.

The Senior Regional Financial Planning Analyst role is vital in developing the business through supporting new market development, embedding new business units and developing the regional finance infrastructure that will enable the business to succeed.

The Regional team are primarily based in Nairobi and have oversight of the operating units (“business units”) across Africa.

Job Scope: The job holder will report directly to the Financial Planning & Analysis Director supporting all aspects of financial reporting and analysis in the Africa Regional Hub and business units.

The job scope includes the following regional responsibilities:

  • Assisting with new market reconnaissance, analysis and business case development and execution
  • Business unit finance integration
  • Forecasting and business planning
  • Awareness of and managing financial risk, financial governance and interactions with Group Head Office
  • Financial Reporting
  • Support and grow capability of the regional finance function reporting

The role also incorporates the following local business unit responsibilities:

  • Providing finance and project management input into a range of commercial issues across the business
  • Technical support for Finance projects and local accounting issues
  • Performing strategic and critical analysis of business issues

The position will be predominantly based in Nairobi (Kenya), with overseas travel as may be required

Principal Accountabilities:

General:

  • Support the Regional Finance team in the delivery of solutions to a full spectrum of finance and commercial challenges

New Markets:

  • Conduct desk top research as may be required
  • High level business case development including valuation
  • Analysis of financial statements and other commercial information as the case may be
  • Creating of pitch materials when required
  • Collaborating with other parts of the Group to support the above business initiatives
  • Creation of Board level project information

Business Unit Integration:

  • Map and analyze financial process flows
  • Guide and advise the operating business units on the development of best practice in planning and analysis of financial and commercial data

Forecasting and Business Planning:

  • Planning the forecasting and reporting cycle with local business units
  • Incorporating plan/budget drivers into monitoring processes
  • Develop and continually improve on budgeting, financial projections and operating forecast

Managing Financial Risk:

  • Awareness of Group Policies with respect to the above
  • Ability to embed a “no-surprises” approach to issue resolution

Financial Reporting:

  • Review and challenge of LBU submissions
  • Interfacing with Group Finance on reporting deliverables
  • Ad hoc business performance reporting
  • Prepare and present monthly and/or quarterly financial reports
  • Support management with data driven analysis of the financials

Core Competences Required:

  • Practical understanding of Life Insurance, ability to think commercially and interact with different stakeholders in time-pressured situations
  • Ability to absorb project-based time-sensitive workflow with exceptionally high levels of personal commitment
  • Willingness and strong desire to understand drivers and operating environment of emerging frontier markets
  • The successful candidate will be analytical and process driven, initiative-taking and comfortable with decision making independently within rules of engagement
  • The role requires excellent communication, people skills and empathy to successfully operate within a multi-cultural environment with the credibility to influence internal and external stakeholders
    CPA, ACCA or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business or related field from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Solid background in Financial Analysis and modelling are key, good working knowledge of IFRS
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar or higher role. Experience in the financial services sector desirable
  • Advanced skills in MS Office and other accounting financial reporting solutions
