Mary’s Meals Kenya (MMK) operates a Primary School Feeding and Early Childhood Development programme in Kenya.

We are delighted to be recruiting for a talented School Feeding Officer (SFO) to join our team in Lodwar, Turkana county.

Reporting to the School Feeding Manager, the SFO will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the School Feeding Programme in ensuring that school-based activities are being carried out effectively and in accordance to Mary’s Meals School Feeding Programme Delivery Model and the surrounding communities are participating to acceptable standards.

The SFO will also play a link role between the school, community and Mary’s Meals Kenya.

This includes interfacing with community-based government curriculum support officers while continuously building and sustaining participatory community, stakeholder engagement as well as programme data management and capacity building to all volunteers, teachers, School Feeding Committees and the communities in which Mary’s Meals operates in.

Essential Job Functions of the position

  • Abide by Mary’s Meals Kenya (MMK) child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and sensitize schools, pupils, families, and communities supported by MMK about safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and the need to protect children rights in their activities.
  • Collaborate with line managers, schools, and stakeholders to implement and adhere to MMK child safeguarding policy.
  • Conduct weekly and impromptu monitoring visits to all assigned schools as per the checklist guidelines while documenting, communicating, and resolving deviations.
  • Facilitate the delivery of school feeding programme supplies and equipment to supported schools and ensure maintenance and care of assets donated to these schools.
  • Furnish the finance, logistics and procurement departments with records of food delivered to schools and provide a report on the quality of food delivered.
  • Raise awareness and understanding of Mary’s Meals school feeding model amongst relevant host county and national government officers in a bid to promote support for the programme.
  • Conduct trainings and continuous refresher courses, coaching and mentorship activities to program volunteers on the importance of data accuracy in a bid to have credible information.
  • Apply available data management systems to collect, compile and report MEL data including stock balances, consumption rates and daily attendance records, Enrolment data, monitoring checklists, stakeholder information, demographic data among others.
  • Collect, collate, compile and share food consumption rates and stock balances in a timely manner to ensure that proper food ratios are used and are aligned to Mary’s Meals feeding model and expectations.
  • Work with supported schools and communities to ensure strict adherence to Mary’s Meals control on consumption and stock taking while instituting troubleshooting mechanisms on dealing with variances.
  • Hold community engagement sessions in collaboration with the School Feeding Committees, community members and other stakeholders to ensure support and ownership of the School
    Feeding Programme.
  • Any other assigned duties by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • A Diploma in Community development / Social work, Education, Programme Management, Sociology or related social science.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A valid motorbike riding license and the ability to ride a motorbike
  • At least 2 years’ experience in community development or related field preferably with communities in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas.

Desirable

  • First degree in all the above and/or relevant field is desirable
  • Experience in working in child centered organizations, preferably in school feeding programs.
  • Ability to communicate in Turkana language.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and RESCO phone applications in reporting
