Position Title: Project Officer – Advocacy

International Aid Services (IAS) Kenya is a Non – Governmental Organization registered under the NGO Coordination Board in Kenya.

IAS K was registered in 2004 and is affiliated globally to both IAS Alliance and programme countries.

IAS-Kenya implements projects in the following thematic areas; Inclusive Education (IE), Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), resilience and disaster risk reduction (DRR), Civil Society Development (CSD), humanitarian intervention (HI) and Inclusive Education as well as mainstreaming cross-cutting issues, disability, gender, and gender based violence (GBV) human rights.

Project Officer- Advocacy

IAS K is recruiting a Project Officer –Advocacy who will be based in Kilifi County. S/he will be responsible for the overall implementation and reporting of the advocacy project.

Job Title: Project Officer – Advocacy

Job Location: Kilifi County

Report to: Programs Manager

Duration of the Contract: One year Contract – Renewable based on performance and availability of funds

Duties and Responsibilities:

The principal function of this position is to coordinate the implementation and reporting of Advocacy Project.

  • Coordinating the implementation of the advocacy project
  • Developing and monitoring of the project work plans and budgets.
  • Working in collaboration with the Finance manager to ensure project funds are requested and reported as per the reporting guidelines .
  • Conducting advocacy community activities at the county level
  • Working in collaboration with the Programme Manager, ensure quality, timely documentation and reporting of project activities.
  • Producing and disseminating project learning documents and success stories to the relevant stakeholders
  • Initiating and maintaining partnerships and networks with national and county stakeholders for coordination and implementation of project activities.
  • Building and strengthening strategic partnerships with Key decision makers, policy makers, civil society entities and the relevant government ministries and departments at the county and national level.
  • Preparing and submitting of monthly /quarterly/yearly project progress reports in line with donor reporting guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate implementation of programme activities to identify gaps, constraints and challenges that should be taken into account in order to develop and implement more innovative and integrated programming for each target population.
  • Participating in resource mobilization (concept notes and proposal development)
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Degree in Law, Political science, Project management, Community Development, social sciences or any other related field.
  • Three years proven experience in governance programming with bias towards a Human Rights Based approach /advocacy in an NGO
  • Good understanding of gender mainstreaming in Right -Based approach projects
  • Ability to conduct community advocacy needs assessment, project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation advocacy interventions
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS office suites
  • Valid Kenyan Motorcycle riding license
